Monsoon likely to return to Delhi after pause as IMD predicts heavy rain across Himalayan states
PTC News Desk: The southwest monsoon is expected to become active again from Sunday after several weeks of weak rainfall across many parts of North India.
Delhi is likely to receive regular rain from Sunday, and the wet weather may continue for several days. Rainfall is also expected to increase across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and the northeastern states.
Weather experts say the change is happening because a new low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal, monsoon winds have become stronger and the monsoon trough has shifted northward.
Areas at highest risk
The heaviest rain is expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Some places could receive more than 200 mm of rain in a short time, increasing the risk of: flash floods, landslides and mudslides, sudden rise in river levels
