Nitish Kumar govt announces 35% reservation for women in govt jobs ahead of assembly polls

PTC News Desk: In a significant move, the Nitish Kumar government has announced 35% reservation for women in all government services and posts ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. The decision was taken after a Cabinet meeting on the matter.


"35% reservation exclusively for women candidates who are original residents of Bihar in direct recruitment to all categories, levels, and types of posts in all state government services," Nitish Kumar said.

The government's move is aimed to enhance women's representation in public services across all levels and departments. Taking to X, Nitish Kumar said the decision is aimed at ensuring that more women enter the workforce and play a larger role in governance and administration in Bihar.

While broadening the government's outreach to the youth Bihar Chief Minister also announced establishment of Bihar Youth Commission, a new statutory body approved by the state cabinet.

"I am pleased to inform you that to provide more employment opportunities to Bihar's youth, train them, and make them empowered and capable, the government has decided to constitute the Bihar Youth Commission. The cabinet has given its nod for this today," the Chief Minister said.

The Bihar Youth Commission will work as an advisory board for the government on all the matters related to the upliftment and welfare of the youth in the state.
