Nitish Kumar resigns as Bihar CM ahead of new NDA govt in state, PM Modi likely to attend swearing-in on Nov 20
PTC News Desk: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resigned on Monday by to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, clearing the way for a new NDA government after the alliance’s big win in the recent assembly elections.
He is set to be sworn in for his tenth term as Chief Minister on November 20th, heading a new government backed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
His resignation came a day after the outgoing cabinet authorised him to take the required steps to form the next government. With the NDA winning over 200 of the 243 seats, the process to form a new government under the alliance has now officially begun.
The BJP emerged as the largest party with 89 seats, followed by Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) with 85. Chirag Paswan’s LJP(RV) secured 19 seats, and two smaller allies — HAM and RLM — together won nine seats.
Meanwhile, JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, who returned from Delhi after discussions with top BJP leaders about the new government, met Nitish Kumar in Patna on Sunday.
