No PM Modi-Trump call between April 22 and June 17: EAM Jaishankar as he rejects US President's claims
PTC News Desk: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday dismissed the US President's claims in Lok Sabha of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on the backdrop of trade threat.
Speaking on the floor of the Lok Sabha, Jaishankar asserted that there was no phone call between Donald Trump and PM Modi between April 22 (the Pahalgam Terror Attack) and June 17 (more than a month after the India-Pakistan ceasefire was announced).
Highlighting India's discussions with the US during Operation Sindoor Jaishankar said that US Vice President JD Vance had called Prime Minister Modi, warning him of a massive attack from Pakistan — to which Modi replied that India would respond even more strongly.
Jaishankar stated that India had successfully repelled multiple attacks from Pakistan on May 9 and 10.
He added that on May 10, several countries reached out to India, conveying that Pakistan was willing to agree to a ceasefire. However, India firmly communicated that it would only entertain ceasefire proposals from Pakistan if they were conveyed through the official Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) channel.
When the Opposition objected to Jaishankar’s claim that trade was not discussed between India and the US during Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stepped in, criticizing the Opposition for readily dismissing their own foreign minister while placing trust in another country.
