Panjab University announces student council polls; announces strict ban on rallies and protests

PTC Web Desk:  The student council elections at Panjab University have officially been announced, igniting the political atmosphere on the campus. Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Professor Amit Chauhan, while addressing a press conference, released the complete schedule of the elections. However, this year the university has imposed strict restrictions, barring any political activity within the campus. Along with Panjab University, elections will also be held in 11 affiliated colleges of Chandigarh.

As per the DSW, a complete ban has been imposed on car rallies inside the campus. Only vehicles with official stickers will be allowed entry. The university administration has also enforced the election code of conduct, strictly prohibiting any form of protest or demonstration during the election process.


Election Schedule

August 27: Nomination process from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, followed by scrutiny at 10.35 am. Objections can be filed between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm.

August 28: List of candidates to be released at 10 am. Withdrawal of nominations will take place between 10.30 am and 12 noon, and the final list of candidates will be published at 2.30 pm.

September 3: Voting will begin from 9.30 am onwards.

Eligibility criteria for candidates

To contest the elections, a student must have a minimum of 75% attendance. Candidates with any compartment or academic backlog will not be eligible.
