Parliament security breach: Court sends LS attack 'mastermind' Lalit Jha to 7-day police remand
PTC News Desk: Delhi Police on Friday received seven-day custody of Lalit Jha, the accused in the Parliament security breach case.
Lalit Jha was taken to the Patiala House Court's concerned judge. He was also given legal assistance, Advocate Umakant Kataria.
The Delhi Police, in demanding Jha's 15-day custody, told the court, "He is a mastermind. We need his custody to unearth the whole conspiracy and main motive behind the incident. We need to travel and take him to different cities and places. We need custody to recover the mobile devices also."
The court, however, sent him to a seven-day police remand.
For unversed, a security breach incident took in Lok Sabha chambers on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.
During Zero Hour, two persons, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, stormed into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, releasing yellow gas from canisters and shouting anti-establishment slogans before being stopped by MPs.
In a separate incident, two protesters, Neelam (42) and Amol (25), demonstrated outside the Parliament with similar gas canisters. On Thursday, however, all four were taken into the custody of the Delhi Police Special Cell for seven days.
Senior police officers, comprising two Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) and two Additional Commissioners of Police (ACP), interrogated Lalit Jha last night, during which he described the entire incident to officials.
According to sources, it was discovered during interrogation that preparations for the attack began months ago. Because an entry pass was required for entry into Parliament, it was not available. Lalit had asked everyone if they could obtain a pass for them to quickly enter Parliament.
They claimed that Lalit was constantly monitoring ongoing developments and police movements from a hotel in Rajasthan via news channels.
According to sources, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has created six teams that will head to areas linked to the accused in Lucknow, Mysore, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Haryana to dig more data in the case.
The investigation further revealed that two pairs of shoes were made on special order in Lucknow after the accused learnt that shoes aren't inspected in Parliament, making it an easy route to take the smoke canister inside.
