PM Modi flags off India's first Vande Bharat sleeper train| check routes, key features
PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train, which will operate between Howrah near Kolkata and Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati. Designed as an overnight service, the new train creates a fast rail link between West Bengal and Assam—both of which are headed for elections.
PM Modi flagged off the country’s first sleeper variant of the Vande Bharat from Malda Town in West Bengal, and also virtually launched the return service between Guwahati and Howrah.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, “The fully air-conditioned Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been developed to cater to the transportation needs of a rapidly modernising India. It promises passengers an airline-style experience at affordable rates, making long-distance travel faster, safer and more comfortable. By cutting the Howrah–Guwahati (Kamakhya) journey time by nearly 2.5 hours, it will also significantly support tourism and religious travel.”
