PM Modi to address security at DGP, IGP conference in Rajasthan
New Delhi, January 1: The 58th all-India annual conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police is scheduled to take place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, this week, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend. The three-day event, set between January 5-7, will address crucial topics, including counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency, and cyber security.
The conference aims to delve into various aspects of policing and national security, encompassing themes such as strengthening borders, cybercrime, data governance, anti-terrorism challenges, prison reforms, Left-wing extremism or naxalism, and narcotics smuggling. Director Generals of Police (DGPs) from different states will present their perspectives in separate sessions based on specific topics.
According to sources, the conference represents the culmination of extensive deliberations involving police and intelligence officers at district, state, and national levels. "Best practices from states and Union Territories (UTs) under each of the themes will be presented at the conference so that states can learn from each other," sources stated.
This marks the first major national conference held in Jaipur since the formation of the new government in Rajasthan. The conference is expected to take place at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur.
The high-profile event will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Ministers of State for Home, National Security Advisor, Union Home Secretary, DGPs and IGPs of States and the UTs, and heads of the Central Police Organisations and Central Armed Police Forces.
Around 100 invitees, including DGPs of states and UTs, along with heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations, will physically attend the conference. Additionally, nearly 600 officers from various levels are expected to participate virtually from states and UTs.
Since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has actively participated in the DGP conference, demonstrating a keen interest in the discussions. The conference provides a platform for top police officials to brief the Prime Minister on key policing and internal security issues, fostering open and frank recommendations.
Guided by the Prime Minister's vision, the conference has expanded discussions to include futuristic themes in policing and security, addressing emerging challenges and issues. Prime Minister Modi has advocated for annual DGP conferences across the country since 2014.
Reflecting on previous conferences, the Prime Minister has urged making police forces more sensitive and incorporating emerging technologies into training. He emphasized the National Data Governance Framework for efficient data exchange across agencies and recommended strengthening traditional policing mechanisms while leveraging technological solutions.
The Prime Minister encouraged repealing obsolete criminal laws, establishing standards for police organizations, and implementing prison reforms. He highlighted the need for enhanced cooperation between state police and central agencies, suggesting the replication of the conference model at state and district levels for addressing emerging challenges and sharing best practices.
