Rachel Gupta steps down as Miss Grand International 2024, organisers say title revoked

PTC News Desk: Model Rachel Gupta the first Indian to be crowned Miss Grand International, has stepped down from her title less than a year after her historic win. Rachel took to her social media and announced her decision citing “broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment” within the organisation as the reasons behind her move.

However, a controversy ensued soon after her announcement with organisers of the pageant claiming that she has been terminated and her title was revoked owing to unfulfilled promises.

Rachel Gupt shared a heartfelt message and expressed her dispair saying the dream she had worked hard to achieve had turned into a painful experience. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one for me,” she wrote. “I was filled with pride and hope to represent my country, but what followed were months of silence, disrespect, and neglect.” She added that a full video explaining her experience would be released soon.

Reason behind stepping down

The 20-year old model said that she was mentally tortured and faced harassment during her tenure with the pageant organisers. She described her decision as difficult but crucial for her mental and emotional wellbeing.

What did organisers claim ?

While Gupta signalled toxic environment behind her decision, the Miss Grant International (MGI) painted a different picture.  The organisers have accused Rachel Gupta of failing to honour her responsibilities and refusal to participate in scheduled trips.

"The Miss Grand International Organisation hereby announces termination of Miss Rchel Gupta's title as Miss Grand International 2024, effective immediately. Miss Rachel Gupta i no longer authorised to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024," the statement read.

"This decision follows her failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organisation, and her refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala," the statement added.

Rachel Gupta was crowned Miss Grand International 2024 on October 25 last year. She became the first Indian to clinch the title.
