Railway restricts sale of platform ticket for a week after Delhi stampede
PTC News Desk: Two days after deadly stampede at New Delhi railway station that claimed 18 lives and injured several other, Indian railways has announced restricting the sale of platform tickets for a week starting today.
According to a railway ministry spokesperson, the sale of platform ticket will be restricted from 4pm to 11 pm this week. "In view of the crowd management, it has been decided to stop the sale of platform tickets at the New Delhi railway station from 4 pm to 11 pm for the next one week," the ministry spokesperson said in a message.
The decision follows incident of overcrowding that triggered a stampede at New Delhi railway station on Saturday night resulting in the loss of 18 lives.
The Delhi Police have deployed six inspector-rank officers at the railway station to enhance crowd management and ensure passenger safety.
