RCB announce Rs 25 lakh financial aid for families of Bengaluru stampede victims
PTC News Desk: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have pledged financial support of ₹25 lakh each to the families of the 11 fans who lost their lives in the stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4, 2025. The franchise made the announcement on Saturday via their official X and Instagram handles as part of their newly introduced social initiative, RCB Cares.
The incident, which took place during RCB’s title celebration in Bengaluru, is regarded as one of the city’s darkest sporting tragedies. Less than a day after RCB secured their maiden IPL title with a win over Punjab Kings in the final at Ahmedabad, thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium. However, the celebration turned tragic when an uncontrollable rush of people towards the gates led to the death of 11 and injuries to more than 50 others.
Eighty-six days later, RCB has stepped forward with a more substantial compensation package. In a heartfelt statement, the franchise recognized the gravity of the loss and expressed its solidarity with the bereaved families.
"Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025. We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community & our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us," the statement read.
"No amount of support can ever fill the space they've left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended Rs 25 lakh each to their families. Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care," the statement added.
