'Return my son': Father of son, who died in Bengaluru stampede refuses post mortem
PTC News Desk: A father whose son died in the Bengaluru stampede was seemingly inconsolable and refused to carry out his postmortem. He urged the authorities to return the body of his son without conducting autopsy.
"Home minister came and went. We have one child, give me my child back," the father pleaded with the authorities.
“Don’t want any postmortem, whatever happened has happened. Just send my son back to me. I don't live without my son for an hour also. 22 years I’ve taken care of him , because of you all he’s dead today. Just send him back now,” he further said while struggling to control his tears.
His son was amongst the 11 deceased who fell prey to the stampede which resulted from chaotic celebrations at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium last evening in view of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
While the stadium has capacity to hold around 35,000 people, an estimated 2-3 lakh fans gathered after conflicting announcements from the authorities and the RCB team were made.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the footfall was unprecedented and despite police's efforts to mitigate the crowd, the situation escalated.
"While those with valid tickets were allowed to enter the stadium for celebrations, many tried to squeeze in with those who had free passes and tickets. In that bid to get entry, some of them also started pushing each other," a police officer said.
