Supreme Court rejects Abhishek Banerjee’s plea to block ED summon

PTC News Desk: On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea filed by Abhishek Banerjee, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress, and his wife, Rujira Banerjee, challenging the Enforcement Directorate (ED)'s summons in connection with a high-profile teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal.

The case involves allegations of money laundering and corruption linked to a substantial financial scandal related to teacher appointments in West Bengal schools. The ED has accused Abhishek Banerjee and his wife of being implicated in this multi-crore scam.

Abhishek Banerjee, who is a Member of Parliament for the Trinamool Congress, has previously avoided several summonses issued by the ED. In response, he sought judicial intervention to contest these summonses, arguing against the legitimacy and timing of the agency’s actions.

The Supreme Court's decision to reject their plea means that the Banerjees are now required to comply with the ED's investigation, which continues to probe the alleged irregularities in the teacher recruitment process.
