Supreme Court to hear plea seeking judicial probe into Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 dead

PTC Web Desk: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a crucial petition tomorrow that calls for the establishment of a judicial commission to probe the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 tourists.

The petition has been filed by three local residents — Fatesh Kumar Shahu, Mohammad Junaid, and Vicky Kumar — who have urged the apex court to appoint a retired Supreme Court judge to head the commission. The primary aim is to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the attack.

In addition to the judicial probe, the petitioners have also requested the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) under the direction of the Central Government. This team would be tasked with determining accountability and bringing those responsible to justice.

The plea further seeks directives for the Central Government, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to formulate a comprehensive action plan to bolster security in tourist destinations across the Union Territory.

The matter has gained urgency as the Cabinet Committee on Security recently convened to assess the situation in Pahalgam and deliberate on broader national security challenges, including cross-border hostilities.

India, in response to ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistani forces, has reportedly carried out measured retaliatory actions to reinforce its defensive posture.
