Imphal (Manipur), July 23: A day after the state government urged her to postpone her visit to Manipur, Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), arrived in Imphal on Sunday to meet with survivors of sexual assault, while appealing the administration to allow her to do so.

"I will directly go to the CM's Office. I want to meet chief minister, N Biren Singh. I want to meet the sexual abuse survivors and see if they have got legal aid, counselling or any compensation," Maliwal said after landing at Imphal airport.

She also appealed to the state government, stating that she had been there to assist the people of Manipur.

"Please let me do that. I'm not here to play politics. I request PM Modi and the Women and Child Development Minister (Smriti Irani) to visit Manipur. I will also try and meet the Governor," Maliwal added.

This visit comes only days after a video emerged on social media showing two women being paraded naked by a mob.

Earlier, before leaving for Imphal, the DCW chairman stated that the state government had asked her to postpone her visit since the state's law and order situation was "not good."

"I wrote to the Manipur government to express my desire to visit the state and meet with survivors of sexual assault. I received a letter from the Manipur government suggesting that I postpone my visit because the law and order situation in the state is not good," Maliwal said.

The DCW leader further stated that she had chosen to visit Manipur and urged the Manipur government not to stop her.
