PTC News Desk: On Saturday, dramatic drone footage emerged from Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, capturing the moment a terrorist, armed with an assault rifle, fled a building and engaged in a firefight with security forces before being neutralised.

The operation, which took place in the Chak Tapper Kreeri area of Baramulla, resulted in the death of three terrorists. Officials described the operation as a "significant success" due to its outcome. Brigadier Sanjay Kannoth, Commander of the Army’s 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, reported that the terrorists were considered "hardcore" and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered during the operation.

The footage shows one of the terrorists sprinting towards nearby trees, taking cover behind a compound wall. Despite the intense gunfire, he is seen collapsing and crawling a few meters before eventually being subdued. The firefight left visible damage, with bullets striking the concrete walls and raising clouds of white dust.

The success of this operation comes at a crucial time when security forces have faced a high number of casualties. Earlier, in a separate encounter in Kupwara, two army soldiers lost their lives in action.

Brigadier Kannoth provided details about the operation, stating, "Last night, we received specific intelligence regarding the presence of unidentified terrorists in Chak Tapar/Watargam. We promptly cordoned off the area where the terrorists were suspected to be hiding."

He explained that the terrorists had been positioned in an old building and opened fire on the security forces. Following standard operating procedures, the troops returned fire. "The operation continued into the morning. Our troops, operating with professionalism, engaged and neutralized the terrorists while ensuring there was no collateral damage to civilian life and property," Brigadier Kannoth added.

This operation is particularly notable as Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for assembly elections, which are set to take place in three phases starting September 18. The successful neutralisation of these terrorists highlights the ongoing efforts of security forces to maintain stability in the region.
