Woman dies after iron bridge collapses in North Delhi’s Roop Nagar; site cordoned off
PTC Web Desk: A tragic incident was reported in north Delhi’s Roop Nagar area on Tuesday morning when an iron footbridge suddenly collapsed, leading to the death of a woman who fell into a nearby drain.
According to officials, the victim, believed to be a beggar aged around 50, was crossing the structure when it gave way beneath her. She plunged into the drain and drowned before help could reach her.
Teams from the Delhi Fire Service and rescue personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. The woman’s body was later retrieved from the drain and she was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have launched a search operation in the area to ensure that no other individuals were affected by the collapse. Rescue teams are continuing to scan the drain as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, officials have cordoned off the site to prevent further mishaps. The exact reason behind the bridge collapse remains unclear and a detailed inspection has been ordered to determine whether structural weakness or lack of maintenance led to the accident.
