Yamuna water level in Delhi decreases, but still above danger mark
New Delhi, July 18: The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has slightly decreased but continues to remain above the danger mark. As of 7 am on Tuesday, the water level stood at 205.71 meters, down from the midnight recording of 206.01 meters. Despite the dip, caution is still warranted due to the ongoing high water level.
The recent rise in water level on Monday can be attributed to rainfall in certain parts of Haryana the previous day. At 5 am, the water level was recorded at 205.81 meters, while at 6 am it measured 205.75 meters. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted additional rainfall for Delhi and the surrounding regions today.
Just five days ago, on July 13, the Yamuna water level reached a record high of 208.66 meters, leading to floods in low-lying areas and displacing numerous residents from their homes. Considering the recent rise in water level on Monday, Atishi, a Delhi minister, advised individuals residing in government relief camps not to return to their flood-affected houses.

Due to the decrease in the Yamuna water level, the Transport Department of the Delhi Government has eased some travel restrictions. An earlier order issued on July 13 imposed restrictions on the entry of heavy vehicles from the Singhu border, Badarpur border, Loni border, and Chilla border due to waterlogging. However, heavy vehicles transporting essential supplies and food items were exempted from these restrictions.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Chandrawal and Wazirpur water treatment plants in the national capital have resumed operations. This indicates positive progress in managing the situation and providing safe drinking water to the affected areas.
Despite the slight decrease in water level, it is crucial for residents and authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. The risk of flooding and its impact on low-lying areas still persists. Monitoring the situation closely, following updates from the relevant authorities, and adhering to their guidelines can help mitigate potential risks associated with the Yamuna's water level.
