New strain of COVID-19 found in three districts of Punjab: Balbir Singh Sidhu
COVID-19 peak in Punjab: Amid growing concerns over the coronavirus situation in Punjab, the State Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu on Monday said that a new strain of COVID-19 has been found in Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, and Shahpur.
Balbir Singh Sidhu further said that he will visit Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, and Shahpur to review the situation where a new strain of COVID-19 has been found.

In the wake of the coronavirus situation in Punjab, a night curfew has been imposed in at least 8 districts including Mohali, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana.
Even as some analysts called it a new strain of COVID-19 in Punjab. On Sunday, the Chief Secretary Punjab, Vini Mahajan here held a meeting with Deputy Commissioners, Police Chiefs, Municipal Commissioners, Civil Surgeons, and other officers to review the emergency measures to tackle the current peak in COVID-19 cases in Punjab, while asking them.

While expressing concern over the 3rd peak, wherein 1,515 CoViD-19 positive cases emerged on March 13, she exhorted the officers to spruce up all the necessary arrangements and remain in top gear to effectively tackle the recent upswing in the cases, while asking all the districts to step up the testing of the contacts to break the chain of transmission.
She stated that Punjab witnessed the first peak in September last year as it touched 2,896 cases per day followed by a second peak in November with 843 cases per day.
Punjab on Sunday reported 1501 new cases of coronavirus taking the total number of cases to 1,97,755.
