'Not a game of puppets': Bhupesh Baghel submits Punjab Congress report to KC Venugopal amid leadership change buzz

PTC News Desk: Congress leader and Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday met AICC general secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal and submitted his report on the leadership situation after days of consultations with party leaders. He also asserted that any decision attributed to party's leadership would be taken after due deliberation and not  treated as casual exercise.

Baghel, who met Venugopal at his residence, said he had completed an extensive six-day consultation in Punjab before preparing the report.

”I met leaders from across the state, both in meetings at the Punjab Congress Committee office and through one-to-one interactions. Based on those discussions, I have submitted my report to Venugopal,” he told reporters.

Amid speculation about a possible change in the Punjab Congress leadership, senior party leader Bhupesh Baghel said Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has not resigned.

Baghel also rejected claims that the party would take a quick decision, saying leadership changes are not "a game of puppets or dolls." He said the Congress high command will take a decision only after carefully reviewing the feedback received from party leaders.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa also reached Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal's residence as the party leadership continued discussions over the situation in the Punjab unit.

The meetings come a day after senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held talks with party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Venugopal to discuss the internal differences in the Punjab Congress and decide the party's next steps.

The consultation process follows Baghel's meetings with Punjab Congress leaders on July 11, where several senior leaders openly raised concerns over Warring's leadership.

According to sources, many of the 92 leaders who met Baghel, including MLAs and former legislators, said they had no personal issues with Warring but believed he was not the right leader to bring the Congress back to power in the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
