Bihar Assembly Election results 2025: Counting tomorrow, NDA eyes victory as Opposition cries foul

Bihar Assembly Election results 2025: As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly Election results, all eyes are on Friday, November 14, when the counting of votes begins at 8 am. The Election Commission (EC) will oversee the process across 46 counting centres in the state’s 38 districts.

The results will decide whether Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the longest-serving CM of Bihar, will return to power with the NDA alliance or if the Mahagathbandhan (MGB), led by Tejashwi Yadav, can pull off a surprise victory.

The EC has said that counting centres are under two-tier security: the inner circle guarded by central paramilitary forces, and the outer layer by state police. CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the entire process.

Voting machines are stored in strongrooms with a double-lock system, ensuring that no tampering can occur. The counting will be video-recorded in the presence of central observers and representatives of political candidates.

Bihar saw a record voter turnout of nearly 67%, the highest since independence. More than 7.4 crore voters decided the fate of over 2,600 candidates across 243 Assembly seats.

The model code of conduct remains in place till November 16, and the Patna district administration has banned political processions and rallies to maintain peace on counting day.

The build-up to counting day has been intense, with allegations of electoral malpractice by the Opposition. The RJD has accused the EC and the state administration of “favouring the ruling alliance” and claimed attempts were being made to “manipulate” the results.

Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader and CM face of the Mahagathbandhan, rejected exit poll predictions and claimed the opposition will form the next government. He warned supporters to stay “alert and vigilant” and alleged that the ruling NDA might attempt to “delay vote counting” or “murder democracy.”

The RJD even accused officials in Sasaram of “sneaking in EVMs” to counting centres. However, District Magistrate Udita Singh dismissed the claim, saying the truck in question only carried empty steel boxes and the movement was officially recorded.

Exit poll predictions

Most exit polls have predicted a clear win for the NDA, led by the JD(U) and BJP, along with LJP (RV), HAM(S) and RLM.

The Axis My India survey forecasted 121–141 seats for the NDA, giving it a comfortable majority, while the Mahagathbandhan was expected to get 98–118 seats. The RJD was predicted to be the single-largest party with around 67–76 seats, followed by JD(U) with 56–62 and BJP with 50–56.

Other surveys, like Today’s Chanakya and People’s Pulse, projected a much bigger NDA win — over 150 seats.

However, a few outliers such as Journo Mirror predicted a victory for the Mahagathbandhan, giving it 130–140 seats and the NDA 100–110 seats.

While exit polls are being widely discussed, many political experts have urged caution. In the 2020 Bihar elections, most exit polls had wrongly predicted an MGB victory, but the NDA eventually won 125 seats, forming the government.

In 2015, when Nitish Kumar was part of the MGB, exit polls underestimated the alliance’s performance; it went on to win 178 seats.

Meanwhile, the NDA camp appears confident. BJP and JD(U) leaders say the exit polls reflect ground reality. Union Minister Amit Shah and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar have expressed optimism about crossing the 160-seat mark.
