  Mohinder Bhagat (AAP candidate) - Profile

  

  • Mohinder Bhagat is the son of Chunni Lal Bhagat, a veteran BJP leader and former three-time BJP MLA and minister, who had previously represented the Jalandhar West constituency.
  • Mohinder Bhagat also contested from this seat in the 2017 elections on a BJP ticket, but was defeated by the then Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku, who had defected to AAP last year and had contested the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll in 2023 on and AAP ticket and won with a huge margin.
  • Mohinder Bhagat has long been active in the Jalandhar West constituency, initially assisting his father and later serving as a BJP leader. 
  • Mohinder Bhagat contested twice from Jalandhar West on the BJP ticket. He was chairman of the Medium Industries Development Board of Punjab from 2007-2011. He also served as the BJP’s Punjab vice-president from 1998-2001 and again from 2017-2020.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Mohinder Bhagat won from Punjab’s Jalandhar West constituency in the bypoll election.

In the Jalandhar West Bypoll , there are 15 candidates in the fray Mohinder Bhagat of AAP is leading. Sheetal Angural (BJP), Surjit Kaur (SAD), Surinder Kaur (INC), Binder Kumar Lakha (BSP), Mohinder Bhagat (AAP), Sarabjit Singh Khalsa (SADSSM), Ajay Kumar Bhagat (IND), Ajay Pal Valmiki (IND), Aarti (IND), Inderjit Singh (IND), Deepak Bhagat (IND), Neetu Shatran Wala (IND), Raj Kumar Saqi (IND), Varun Klair Vari (IND), Vishal (IND)

Who is Mohinder Bhagat?

Stringent Security Measures

The administration has implemented stringent security arrangements for the vote counting, which will be conducted at Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar. Election officials, central security forces, and Punjab Police will maintain strict vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents. 

The Jalandhar West (Scheduled Caste-reserved) seat became vacant following the resignation of the sitting Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, Sheetal Angural, who switched to the BJP on March 27, along with the then-AAP Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar, Sushil Kumar Rinku

Jalandhar West Assembly Bypoll Voter Turnout 

District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal informed that 54.98% voter turnout was recorded in the bypoll of Jalandhar West Parliamentary Constituency on July 10, 2024. 

Dr Aggarwal stated that the bypoll was conducted peacefully with no incidents of violence during the voting process.
