Kangana Ranaut rebukes Congress leader over offensive instagram post

PTC News Desk: A contentious Instagram post by a Congress leader directed at actor Kangana Ranaut, who is making her electoral debut, has ignited a fresh controversy, prompting the National Commission for Women to call for action against the politician.

The post, which surfaced on the Instagram handle of Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, came just weeks before the national elections. Kangana Ranaut is contesting the elections on a BJP ticket from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

Responding to the remarks made by Shrinate, the 'Queen' actor took to social media to emphasise her diverse portrayals of women in cinema, ranging from a prostitute in "Rajjo" to a revolutionary leader in "Thalaivii." She advocated for freeing daughters from societal prejudices and refraining from using the challenges faced by sex workers as derogatory slurs.

Shrinate issued a video clarification, asserting that she had deleted the "inappropriate posts" made from her handle without her knowledge. She attributed the post to a parody account bearing her name and stated her commitment to refraining from making indecent comments towards any woman.

In a further twist, Ranaut shared a screenshot of a conversation wherein a Gujarat Congress leader made disparaging remarks about her electoral debut, highlighting what she perceived as sexist attacks faced by women in politics.

Despite Shrinate's clarification, Union Minister Smriti Irani led a BJP attack on the Congress, affirming Ranaut's resilience in the face of adversity and calling for her continued success in politics.

The National Commission for Women expressed its dismay over the incident, condemning the "disgraceful conduct" of Shrinate and another individual for their lewd and derogatory remarks towards Kangana Ranaut on social media. The commission called for immediate and strict action against those involved, citing the violation of women's dignity.
