Vishnu Deo Sai sworn in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister; Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao take oath as Deputy CMs
PTC Web Desk: Vishnu Deo Sai was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, marking a significant moment in the state's political landscape. The oath-taking ceremony, held at Raipur's Science College grounds, saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and senior BJP leaders, along with chief ministers from other states.
Administered by Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan, the swearing-in also included the induction of Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao.
The event was graced by several key figures, including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other eminent party leaders. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel was also among the attendees.
Vishnu Deo Sai's appointment as the Chief Minister was announced following a crucial meeting of the BJP's 54 newly elected MLAs in the state. He emerged victorious in the Kunkuri Assembly seat with an impressive vote count of 87,604.
Sai, a notable figure within the BJP, has held several significant positions, previously serving as the state chief and a Union Minister. Hailing from the influential Sahu (Teli) community, which holds considerable sway in the Durg, Raipur, and Bilaspur divisions, Sai previously served as the State President of the Chhattisgarh BJP from 2020 to 2022. He was also a Union Minister of State for Mines and Steel in PM Modi's first cabinet.
With a strong base among tribal voters, Sai began his political journey as a village sarpanch, steadily rising through the ranks. He won four consecutive Lok Sabha Elections from the Raigarh constituency, starting from 1999 until 2014. However, he did not receive a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
In the recent state elections, the BJP secured 54 out of the 90 Assembly constituencies, while the Congress won 35 seats, setting the stage for Sai's ascent to the role of Chief Minister.
