Amritsar rocked by back-to-back shootings: Two killed, one injured in separate attacks; gangster connection surfaces
PTC Web Desk: Amritsar witnessed a wave of violence on Tuesday morning as three separate shooting incidents shook the city, leaving residents in fear and the police on high alert. Within a span of a few hours, two men lost their lives while a youth was critically injured in different parts of the district, marking one of the most tense days in recent months.
Chehharta: 40-year old man shot dead
In the Chehharta area, 40-year-old Varinder Singh was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants. Varinder had just dropped his children at school and was returning home when the attackers fired multiple bullets at him. One bullet struck his neck, leaving him critically injured.
Family members rushed him to a private hospital in Amritsar, where doctors declared him dead. The police have begun investigating the CCTV footage from nearby areas. According to officials, Varinder had earlier filed a complaint with the police, claiming he was receiving life threats.
Daburji: Youth shot at while driving
Late last night, unidentified assailants opened fire on Jashanpreet, a resident of Daburji. According to initial information, Jashanpreet, who worked at a medical store, had gone out to refuel his vehicle. On the way, he reportedly stopped the car when unknown individuals suddenly fired multiple shots at him.
Police sources indicate that the incident appears to be linked to an old rivalry. One bullet hit Jashanpreet in the abdomen, and he was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar. His condition is said to be critical.
Police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and have begun investigations.

Bus stand shooting: Gangster connection surfaces
The third and most disturbing incident occurred at the Amritsar bus stand, where a dispute between private bus employees escalated into a fatal shootout.
During a heated argument over picking up passengers, one of the employees pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds. Makhan Singh, a conductor with Kahlon Bus Service, was shot four times and collapsed on the spot. Six bullet shells were recovered from the scene.
Initially believed to be a dispute over bus timings, the case took a major turn when the Gopi Ghanshampuria gang claimed responsibility for Makhan Singh’s murder through a social media post.
The gang alleged old enmity and accused Makhan Singh of supporting rivals linked to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang.
In their post, the gang wrote that they had been “waiting for the right time,” accusing the victim of helping enemies and threatening their group members. They warned of more action and asked people to “wait and watch.”
