PTC Web Desk: A tragic road accident in Ludhiana claimed the life of a 17-year-old student on Friday morning after a speeding truck hit the scooter she was riding with her father near Mata Rani Chowk.

The victim, identified as Rashmi Kumari, a resident of a village in Nalanda district in Bihar was travelling to the railway station with her father to board a train for Bihar, where she was scheduled to appear for her Class 11 examination.

According to her father, Mithlesh, the two had left early in the morning to catch a train departing around 8.30 am. At approximately 7.30 am, when they reached near Mata Rani Chowk, a truck coming from behind at high speed rammed into their scooter.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the teenager critically injured. Witnesses said the truck driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled immediately after the crash.

A passerby who drives an e-rickshaw quickly stepped in to help. After asking passengers to get down, he rushed the injured girl and her father towards a hospital. However, the teenager succumbed to her injuries on the way.

Her body was later taken to the mortuary at the Civil Hospital Ludhiana for further procedures.

Police officials from the local Kotwali police station confirmed that the truck involved in the accident has been seized. Investigators are now working to identify and locate the driver and owner of the vehicle.

Mithlesh, who has been living in Ludhiana for nearly 15 years, works in a private factory and stays in rented accommodation. Rashmi had come to spend the Holi holidays with him and was returning to Bihar to sit for her exam.

The grieving father said he never imagined that the routine journey to the railway station would end in such a heartbreaking loss.
