Gippy Grewal extortion case: Gangsters accused of extorting singer-actor Gippy Grewal were acquitted by a district court due to a lack of evidence that the former received threat calls. Dilpreet Singh Dahan, also known as Baba, and Sukhpreet Singh Budha were cleared of all charges.

Grewal had allegedly received threats. Mohali police failed to prove in court that Grewal was extorted by Baba and Budha.

Savita Das, a judicial magistrate, absolved Baba and Budha after hearing arguments from the prosecution and defence.

The police were unable to provide voice messages and chat correspondence as evidence. Concurrently, the court declared Renu, the wife of gangster Lucky Patiala, an absconder for her repeated non-appearance, resulting in a warrant for her arrest. Renu has been accused of working with Baba in the extortion scheme.

Complainant Rupinder Singh, also known as Gippy Grewal, said that he received extortion messages over WhatsApp from many numbers, including a foreign number, and was threatened with serious consequences if the demands were not met.

On June 1, 2018, the Phase-8 police station registered a case against Dilpreet Baba under Sections 387 and 506 of the IPC and the IT Act.
