Gurdaspur cops death: Punjab CM announces Rs 1 crore ex-gratia each, Pak-linked outfit claims role behind killing
PTC News Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each for both the police personnel found dead with bullet injuries at a checkpost in Gurdaspur district on Sunday.
Meanwhile Pakistan-based outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Hindustan claimed responsibility for the killings of both the policemen. Senior police officials said the group had no known presence in Punjab or elsewhere in India. “It is too early to say anything,” an officer said, adding that such claims could be diversionary tactics.

ASI Gurnam Singh and Home Guard Ashok Kumar, who were posted at Adhian, about 2 km from the international border, were found dead inside the checkpost.
The service weapons of both officials have been seized, and investigators are examining multiple angles, including personal rivalry and possible cross-border connections. Initial rumours had pointed to a dispute between the two or the involvement of a “carrier” tasked with collecting heroin consignments allegedly dropped by Pakistani drones.
Adhian, considered a sensitive and incident-prone village, has been adopted by the Border Security Force (BSF) under its “vibrant village” initiative. Despite this, the area remains vulnerable to cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons, particularly after last year’s floods damaged stretches of border fencing.
The Ravi River, which changes course near the village before flowing into Pakistan, is frequently exploited by smugglers. The nearby town of Dorangla has also seen militant activity in the past, including routes linked to the 2016 Pathankot attack.
Police officials said the incident is being investigated from all possible angles.
