Key accused in Ferozepur RSS leader’s son murder case killed in Fazilka encounter; two accomplices flee
PTC Web Desk: Twelve days after the killing of Naveen Arora, son of an RSS leader from Ferozepur, Punjab, the main accused in the case was shot dead during an early morning encounter near the Mahmu Joyia toll plaza on the Fazilka–Ferozepur road on Thursday. The gunfight occurred at a cremation ground adjacent to the toll plaza.
According to police sources, the encounter took place when a Ferozepur police team, led by the DSP City, DSP Detective, and a CIA inspector, brought the prime accused, Badal, to the site to recover weapons linked to the November 15 murder. As the police team entered the cremation ground, two armed men already hiding there opened fire on the police.
SSP Gurmeet Singh said Head Constable Balaur Singh sustained bullet injuries during the sudden attack. In the exchange of fire that followed, Badal, a resident of Ferozepur, was fatally hit. The two assailants who ambushed the police managed to escape.
Fazilka DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill confirmed that Badal was the main shooter in the murder of Naveen Arora. He said Badal’s accomplices had positioned themselves at the cremation ground and opened fire with the apparent intention of freeing him from police custody. SHO Gurinder Singh of Amir Khas police station added that the bullets fired by Badal’s aides struck him as well during the crossfire.
Naveen Arora was shot dead in a crowded market in Ferozepur on November 15. The police later arrested two suspects, Badal and Kanav. Kanav had also been involved in a previous police encounter. Investigations revealed that the assailants were allegedly offered Rs 1 lakh each to carry out the killing. The police have launched a manhunt to trace the two accomplices who fled after the Fazilka encounter.
