Mohali: Trader dies of heart attack after counter-intelligence team points gun during raid in Mullanpur
PTC News Desk: A shocking incident from Mohali's Mullanpur area has come to light where a trader died of heart attack after a team of counter-intelligence allegedly pointed revolvers at a group of traders playing cards, according to reports
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Soni, 55, who was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. Another man collapsed and was rushed to GMCH-16, Chandigarh, for treatment.
Police officials confirmed that the deceased was a heart patients with history of heart attacks.
According to the reports, the team comprised five officials in civilian dress who reached the spot following intelligence input and nabbed a group of businessmen, including garment shop owners, jewellers, property dealers and landlords, among others for “gambling”.
Meanwhile, local residents and businessmen said the person who were nabbed on the suspicion of gambling were playing card game in an open area near the market, which is a regular routine on Mondays.
The bizarre incident heightened tensions in the area, as angry residents surrounded and assaulted two members of the police team before senior officers intervened. Additional police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.
An eyewitness identified as Rajesh alias Pammi, described scenes of panic as the team drew their weapons before identifying themselves as police officials. “They suddenly pointed revolvers at us without saying they were police. Everyone panicked, thinking gangsters were attacking," he said.
According to the reports, tensions heightened after local residents heckled the police officials and assaulted two members before senior officers intervened Additional police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.
The two officers were later taken into police custody, while DSP Mullanpur Dharamvir Singh, SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, and the SHOs of Majri and Kurali police stations worked to pacify the crowd, according to the reports. Police assured locals that strict action would be taken after the investigation.
