Panjab University to remain shut today, exams postponed amid protest over senate polls; ITBP deployed

PTC News Desk: The dates for Panjab University Senate elections has still not announced yet prompting members of the “Panjab University Chandigarh Bachao Morcha” to announce complete university shutdown on November 26.

As the call for postponement of exams grew louder, the protests subsequently intensified prompting administration to defer the exams until further notice. Additionally ITBP forces were also deployed on the campus.

The protesting students are also expected to announce date to gherao BJP office. A meeting is planned after today’s protest in the university to finalize this decision.

Earlier the exams were supposed to held on November 26, however the centres were shifted from PU campus to DAV college following university shutdown, further agitating students triggering massive uproar on campus on Tuesday night and as a result additional forces were deployed.

Students demanding announcement of Senate election date

The Senate and Syndicate of Punjab University Chandigarh had been dissolved by the central government, and students have been protesting for the last 24 days against this decision.

The central government has now withdrawn its decision to dissolve the Senate-Syndicate, and the students are demanding that the date for Senate elections be announced.
