Paris Olympics 2024 | Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announces Rs 1 crore for Indian hockey team players from state
Paris Olympics 2024: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced Rs 1 crore cash reward for each team player from the state after the Indian hockey team won the Bronze medal at Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.
The Chief Minister stated that having 10 Punjabi players, including captain Harmanpreet Singh and vice-captain Hardik Singh, gives us even more pride. Mann wrote in an X post, "The Indian hockey team made history by defeating Spain 2-1 to win the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. India won their fourth Olympic medal in Paris. Congratulations, the entire hockey team. We are especially proud that there were ten Punjabi players, including captain Harmanpreet Singh and vice-captain Hardik Singh. Every member of the team played admirably. Chak de India."
"As per our sports policy we will give 1 crore for each bronze medal players of Punjab," he further said.
India defeated Spain 2-1 in a cliffhanger to win the bronze medal in the men's hockey event at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, 8 August, and bid farewell to legendary keeper PR Sreejesh. Harmanpreet Singh, India's captain, emerged as the team's hero, scoring two sensational goals to help the country retain its bronze medal.
Spain fought determinedly and tried their hardest to get back into the contest, but a cautious Indian defence secured bronze in the evenly contested clash.
