Punjab & Haryana High Court orders fresh threat assessment for Bikram Singh Majithia
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed both the Centre and the Punjab government to conduct a fresh threat assessment of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and submit a detailed report in a sealed cover.
The court ordered that the report be filed after proper consultation between the Punjab Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). Until the next date of hearing, the Punjab Government has been directed to ensure adequate security for Majithia.
During the hearing, the Punjab Government informed the court that 15 police personnel are currently deployed for Majithia’s security. The Bench, however, questioned whether a fresh threat perception assessment had been conducted following his recent release.
When the state failed to provide specific details regarding any updated security review, the High Court directed both the Central and state governments to reassess the threat perception and submit their findings before the court at the next hearing.
The matter has now been listed for further hearing on March 6.
