Punjab cop charged by FBI for working 'hand-in-glove' with Jaggu Bhagwanpuria syndicate
PTC News Desk: A major FBI investigation has revealed that a Punjab Police officer allegedly helped an India-based international crime syndicate by filing false murder cases and carrying out extortion on its behalf.
According to FBI, Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, SHO Tanda has been charged for helping gangsters to extort $400,000 from a family in Los Angeles by threatening to file false murder charges against their relatives in India.
According to federal court documents released in Los Angeles under Operation Hard Ball, Gurinderjit Singh, a Punjab Police officer, allegedly worked closely with members of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. Investigators claim he helped target the gang's rivals by falsely implicating them in criminal cases and demanding money.
US authorities said the case shows how alleged corruption at the local level in Punjab helped organised crime networks operate across several countries. The revelations were made by the US Department of Justice in a statement issued in California on July 7.
The court documents also state that in April 2026, Gurlal Singh, a 22-year-old Indian national living illegally in Stockton, California, and an alleged member of the Bhagwanpuria gang, shared the details of a victim with Gurinderjit Singh, who was serving as a Station House Officer (SHO) in Punjab at the time.
