Punjab on alert ahead of festival season, security significantly heightened
PTC News Desk: The Punjab police have heightened security measures in all the districts, especially along the international borders ahead of the festival season. The security has been beefed up following credible intelligence inputs suggesting attempts to disrupt peace in the region.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav chaired a high-level meeting with senior police officials.
“There are specific intelligence inputs suggesting that after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan’s ISI is desperately trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab. To counter this, we have deployed 57 additional companies, including seven from the Border Security Force (BSF), across seven border districts,” he said.
The Punjab DGP also underscored Punjab Police's recent crackdown over 26 terror modules in past few months, resulting in the arrest of 88 operatives linked to the networks.
He further pointed out that recent floods have caused a surge in cross-border smuggling activities, with narcotics and arms being pushed from Pakistan into Punjab.
The DGP added that in close coordination with the BSF, Punjab police successfully foiled several traficking attempts in recent weeks.
“In the latest trend, Pakistan-based anti-national elements are pushing small weapons along with the contraband. Around 78 pistols have been recovered in the recent past,” a senior police officer said.
