Punjab: RPG attack on Tarn Taran’s Sarhali police station, high alert issued

Tarn Taran, December 10: Another instance indicating towards law and order lapse in Punjab has been reported in Tarn Taran, where unidentified people attacked the Sarhali police station with rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) type weapon on early Saturday morning. So far, it’s not clear whether the grenade exploded or not but according to police sources, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

According to the sources, the grenade fell on the iron gate of the Sanjh Kendra of the Sarhali police station. It was also informed that some window panes and a small portion of the wall of the Sanjh Kendra were damaged during the incident. According to sources, as many as eight policemen were present at the police station at the time of the attack.

A low-intensity blast was reported at the Tarn Taran Police Sanjha Kendra in Punjab on Saturday morning.

Prima facie evidence collected from the spot pointed at a Rocket Propelled Granade (RPG) attack, as per the reports. The forensic team has already set out for the spot. Top Punjab Police officers were also expected to be there.

Lashing out at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jaiveer Shergill, National Spokesperson of BJP tweeted, "Per media reports, Police Station in Tarn Taran attacked by rocket launcher type weapon!

"This is 2nd RPG attack on a Police Station (Mohali on May 8) in 7 months. Very worrying & a disturbing development! Law & order situation has been in a free fall since AAP formed Govt in Punjab!"
