Punjab’s 6 thermal power units shut

Chandigarh, February 14: The power supply to several areas of Punjab was hit and power crisis further deepened due to the closure of six thermal plant units, 

As per the information, two units of 660 MW unit of Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant has been closed due to technical failure.

Similarly, one unit of Rajpura thermal plant has been closed due to overhauling of 700MW. 

Likewisely, two units of Ropar thermal plant (210 MW each) has been closed. One unit has been closed due to over hauling and the other due to the boiler leakage. 

Meanwhile, one unit of state-owned Lehra Mohabbat thermal plant has been closed since May 2022 amid developing a technical snag, hitting the power supply by 210 MW.

Due to the closure of 6 thermal plants in Punjab, there has been a reduction of 2650 MW in installed capacity.

Notably, Punjab has total 15 units of thermal plants out of which two thermal plants are government-owned and three private-owned, at present 9 units are operational in Punjab.
