Jalandhar Municipal scam: AAP's MLA Raman Arora arrested on corruption charges
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Friday conducted a raid at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raman Arora in connection with a corruption case, and subsequently arrested him. Arora, who represents Jalandhar Central in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, is allegedly linked to a bribery scandal involving a recently arrested Municipal Corporation official.
The Vigilance team conducted the raid at Arora’s residence in Ashok Nagar at 8.45 am. At the time the team arrived, the MLA was about to leave. The Vigilance officials took him into custody near the temple turn close to his house. Afterwards, they brought him back inside the house and conducted a thorough search. After obtaining solid evidence, the MLA was arrested. The Vigilance raid is still ongoing.
According to official sources, the raid was part of an ongoing investigation tied to the arrest of Sukhdev Vashisht, an Assistant Town Planner (ATP) in the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. The vigilance action reportedly focuses on alleged collusion between the MLA and civic officials to exploit municipal procedures for personal financial gain.
Sources allege that Arora misused his influence by orchestrating the issuance of fabricated municipal notices to local residents through corporation officials. It is further claimed that after sending these fraudulent notices, money was solicited from the affected individuals to have them cancelled.
In a notable development preceding the raid, the Punjab Government withdrew Raman Arora’s security a couple of days ago. Arora himself confirmed the removal of his official protection.
