PTC News Desk: An assistant sub-inspector was shot at in Punjab's Ajnala district on Sunday evening while he was returning from his duty.

ASI Sukhchain Singh, who was in civil dress, is with the Government Railway Police and was returning to Ajnala from work, having a close shave as a bullet grazed his arm.

The ASI was riding a bike and was in civil dress. He said when he reached near the village the men shot at him. He somehow reached home and was taken to Ajnala civil hospital.

According to the injured policeman, he was returning home on his motorcycle while wearing civilian clothes. As he was entering Jagdev Kalan village and reached near the canal bridge, three unidentified men riding a motorcycle suddenly opened fire at him.

The attack happened so quickly that he had no time to react. One of the bullets grazed his arm. Despite being injured, he sped up his motorcycle and managed to escape the attackers and reach a safe place.

The exact motive and other details will become clear after the police investigation is completed.
