iPhone crash detection alerted Divit Auluck’s mother within moments of Jalandhar accident
PTC Web Desk: In the early hours of November 1, a phone buzzed in the Auluck household. It was an automatic emergency alert from the iPhone of 18-year-old Divit Auluck and it reached his mother with the exact location of the spot where something had gone terribly wrong.
According to reports, Divit had switched on Apple’s Crash Detection feature and listed his mother as an emergency contact. At around 3 am, his Volkswagen reportedly hit a parked Municipal Corporation tractor-trolley on a flyover near Police Lines in Jalandhar. His iPhone is said to have sensed the severity of the impact and sent an alert with his location to his mother’s phone.

The notification woke her up. She called Divit right away, but he didn’t answer. Worried, the family then reached out to one of his friends, who confirmed the accident and told them where Divit had been taken.
Divit, son of Speed Records owner Dinesh Auluck and nephew of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, did not survive. His friend Aarav Talwar, 19, also died in the crash.
Technology could not change what happened that night. But it did make sure his family was not left waiting in the dark for news.
The loss has shaken the Punjabi music community. Honey Singh shared an emotional Instagram story, saying the death of his nephew had left him devastated. Singer Jazzy B posted a photo of Divit with Honey Singh, writing that he had no words for what he was feeling and calling Divit “Sada puttar”, our son.
Divit’s cremation will take place on November 3 at 1 pm at the Model Town Cremation Ground in Jalandhar.
How Does iPhone Crash Detection Work?
Crash Detection is available on iPhone 14 and later models. It uses motion sensors to recognise a severe car crash. When it detects one, the phone shows an alert and begins a countdown. If you don’t respond, it calls emergency services and messages your emergency contacts with your location.
How to add an emergency contact
Open the Health app.
Tap your profile picture at the top right.
Go to Medical ID and tap Edit.
Scroll to Emergency Contacts and tap Add Emergency Contact.
Pick a trusted person, set your relationship with them, and tap Done.
How to check that Crash Detection is on
Go to Settings > Emergency SOS and make sure Call After Severe Crash is on. It is usually on by default on supported models.
Then go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services and turn on Emergency Calls & SOS so your location can be shared.
