The DGP said that the miscreants involved in the incident will be identified and strict action will be taken against them. He added that an FIR has already been registered and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will conduct the investigation and bring the matter to a conclusion.
At present, the DGP is holding a meeting inside Lovely Professional University. University officials are also present at the meeting.
The DGP said that the students’ concerns and problems are the priority and need to be addressed.

It is being alleged that a girl was sexually assaulted in room number 504 and that other incidents also took place there. However, the university has now shared a video of the girls staying in that room, stating that no such incident took place.
“The victim has left for her house following the incident. We have recorded the statement and the process of registering a FIR under required sections. The matter will be thoroughly investigated as all the digital and technical evidences will be taken into record,” DIG Singla said.
He added that the probe will be carried out in a scientific manner and the representatives of students union will be roped in the investigation.
Singla briefed that the students briefed that a Telangana girl committed suicide at varsity campus a fortnight ago and the police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) after recording statements of the family members.
“On the demands of the students, we have also initiated probe into this matter too,” he said.
DIG Singla added that the students have others concerns about their respective boys and girls hostels. A coordinated meeting will be held at 12noon with students and varsity management.
"A viral message about an unverified incident of rape of a student has led to unrest among students against the LPU administration. So far, we have found no substantiating evidence to corroborate the incident, and no complaint has been received by us. The students have caused heavy damage to university property. They have currently laid siege to the NH. I am at the spot. We are trying to talk to the students and pacify them. The situation has started to come under control. We expect things to get settled in some time."
It has come to the notice of the university that certain anti-social elements are spreading completely false, baseless and fabricated rumours through social media and other channels, thereby creating unnecessary confusion among students and attempting to disturb the peaceful academic environment of the University.
The manner in which such false and misleading information is being systematically circulated appears to be a deliberate and concerted attempt to malign the reputation of the university and tarnish its image.
The university categorically clarifies that there is no truth in the rumours currently being circulated. Students, parents and members of the public are requested not to believe, circulate or amplify such rumours. They should rely upon information communicated through official channels of the University only.

The students allege that the university management is not coming forward to address their concerns or listen to them.
The students say their concerns are not being heard. They allege that the people involved in the vandalism were outsiders and are also claiming that a sexual assault took place, but allege that the university management is refusing to acknowledge the matter.
The students are further claiming that a girl died by suicide and that a post-mortem examination was conducted. They allege that despite this, the police and university management have not accepted their claims.
The students are demanding that an FIR be registered. According to them, the police have said that any FIR will be registered based on the findings of the post-mortem examination and the available evidence.
The students are also alleging that the hostel warden was changed overnight and are demanding answers from the university management.
Meanwhile, the management has reportedly not come forward to directly address the students. There are also claims that outsiders entered the campus and later left after incidents of vandalism.
The students are questioning how outsiders could enter the university campus when, according to them, access to the university is restricted and people from outside are generally not allowed to enter freely.

PTC Web Desk: Tension was reported at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab early Sunday after an unverified message about the alleged sexual assault of a female student circulated among students, leading to protests on the campus.
The situation reportedly escalated around 2 am, with a large number of students gathering near the girls’ hostel. During the unrest, parts of the campus property were damaged, including window panes and signages. There were also reports of objects being thrown and fires being started at some locations inside the campus.
As the situation intensified, protesters moved towards the university gates and later gathered on the Jalandhar-Phagwara National Highway, affecting vehicular movement. Police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent further escalation and protect public and university property.
Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora reached the spot and spoke to students. According to the police, the unrest followed the circulation of an unverified message regarding the alleged sexual assault of a student.
The SSP said that, as of the time of his statement, the police had not received any complaint and had found no evidence substantiating the allegation. He added that efforts were underway to speak with the students and restore calm.
The police said the situation had begun to come under control and expressed hope that normalcy would return shortly.
The developments have also led to a large number of posts and videos being shared on social media. Authorities are expected to ascertain the facts surrounding the allegation while maintaining peace on the campus.
The sexual assault allegation remains unverified, and no conclusion about the reported incident should be drawn until authorities establish the facts.
