Mohali Police arrest four shooters of Lawrence Bishnoi gang in firing cases, links with DGP surfaces
PTC News Desk: Mohali Police have arrested four alleged shooters of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in connection with firing incidents at the homes of two businessman and a film producer. Police said the accused were involved in firing at three houses in Mohali as part of an extortion plot.
Following the arrests, police have made significant revelation, stating that one of the arrested shooters, Akashdeep, is the nephew of a police officer of DGP rank.
Bishnoi gang associate made Rs 5 crore extortion calls
Police said the victims repeatedly received calls demanding ₹5 crore in extortion. Following the calls, motorcycle-borne attackers allegedly opened fire at their homes to intimidate them.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, 23, a resident of Sector 35-A, Chandigarh; Praveen Kumar, 23, from Lehra Sodha village in Bathinda; Jasmandeep Singh, 20, from Ansal Colony, Kharar; and Dushant Sharma, 27, from Shekhpura village in Yamunanagar.
A case related to creating a disturbance is already registered against Dushant at the Sohana police station.
Police have seized five pistols, 12 cartridges and an SUV from the accused.
Firing incidents kept under wraps
Mohali Police had kept the firing incidents targeting businessmen under wraps and disclosed details of the series of cases only after the arrests.
Two encounters had also taken place before the arrests. It has now emerged that while tracking the suspects, some senior police officers had initially gone in the wrong direction during the investigation.
Police are also investigating the possible role of two suspects arrested during the encounters in other cases. They include Gurdit Singh, who was arrested on September 10, and Manish, who was arrested on September 13.
Firing at businessman’s house on September 4
SSP Varun Sharma said that around midnight on September 4, two unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers opened fire with automatic weapons at the house of businessman Sanyam Judeja in Phase 10, Mohali.
The attackers allegedly demanded ₹5 crore in extortion from Judeja. Before the firing, Kulveer Singh Sidhu, an alleged associate of the Lawrence gang who is based abroad, had reportedly made the extortion demand.
A case was registered against unidentified accused on September 5.
Second firing incident on September 7
On September 7, two unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers opened fire at the house of Baljit Singh, Judeja’s associate, in Phase 10, Mohali.
Police said Sidhu had again demanded ₹5 crore in extortion before the firing. A case was registered against unidentified accused on September 12.
The investigation into the firing incidents and the involvement of other suspects is continuing.
