Mohanjit custodial torture: Minorities Commission takes cognizance, chairman to meet victim at Rajindra Hospital today
PTC News Desk: The National Commission for Minorities has taken cognizance of the alleged custodial torture of Mohanjit Singh, who is currently undergoing treatment at Patiala's Rajindra Hospital, with Chairman Harjit Singh Grewal scheduled to meet him and officials concerned on Tuesday.
The Commission has directed Punjab Government officials to ensure presence of senior officers along with files, records, investigation documents, medical reports and other appropriate material related to the case for a detailed briefing on the matter and action taken of late.

On hospital visit, Harjeet Grewal said, “I am visiting Mohanjit Singh, a resident of village Sheron in Sangrur district, who is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital in Patiala. Later, I will meet the officials concerned on what action has been taken in the case so far.”
The visit comes after a complaint was submitted to the Minorities Commission involving Mohanjit Singh and that he was allegedly subjected to custodial torture after displaying blag flags in protest against the drug problem across the state during a 'Lok Milni' programme held at village Sheron, Sunam, on September 2.
According to the complaint, Singh was subsequently taken into police custody and was subjected to physical assault and torture including electric shocks. His religious identity was sabotaged with his turban forcibly while his hair and beard pulled.
