Remembering Dev Anand on his 96th birth anniversary
Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand who is known as Dev Anand, was a noted Hindi film actor, writer, director and producer prominently known for his work in Hindi cinema. Dev Anand is considered as one of the greatest and most successful actors in the bollywood film industry. He was born on September 26, 1923 in the Shakargarh Tehsil of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab (British India). Dev Anand's father Pishori Lal Anand was a well-to-do advocate in Gurdaspur District Court. The prominent actor did his schooling till matriculation from Sacred Heart School, Dalhousie, (then in Punjab) and went to Government college Dharamshala before going to Lahore to study. He was awarded by the first lady of United States for his ‘Outstanding Contribution in Hindi cinema’.
