The family told the media that the last rites will be performed only after the son reaches back to Kolkata. The writer was confined to his home for the past three days because of age-related ailments. His condition deteriorated on Wednesday night, following which he was rushed to the hospital.

Dibyendu Palit was born in Bhagalpur in Bihar in 1939. He studied comparative literature at Jadavpur University. He published his first short story ‘Chhandopatan’ in 1955. He was awarded the 'Bankim Purashkar' for 'Dheu' in 1990 and 'Ananda Purashkar' in 1984 for 'Sahojoddha'.

Dibyendu Palit received Sahitya Akademi in 1998 for his very famous novel, 'Anubhab'.
