Asian Games 2026: India women retain gold in Kabaddi with win over Iran in 37-34 thriller
PTC News Desk: India defeated Iran 37-34 in a closely fought final to win the women's kabaddi gold medal. It was India's fourth gold in the event. Unlike their earlier comfortable victories, the final was a tough battle, with Iran staying close to India throughout the match.
India had the advantage in raids, scoring 26 out points compared with Iran's 21. However, Iran earned more bonus points, scoring eight against India's six, which kept the match very competitive.
India led 22-16 at half-time. They scored 16 out points, three bonus points and completed an All-Out in the first half. Iran stayed in the game mainly because of their seven bonus points, but India managed to score at important moments.
After the break, Iran increased the pressure and won the second half 18-15. They reduced India's lead to just one point at 27-26 after an All-Out, putting India under serious pressure for the first time.
Despite the situation, India captain Pushpa said the team remained confident that they could win. She said the players were determined to fight until the final whistle.
Sanju Devi then delivered a crucial Super Raid, giving India some breathing room. The captain followed it up by helping India complete another All-Out, allowing the team to regain control.
Pooja also added important points as Iran's defence began to struggle. Iran continued fighting and produced a Super Tackle, but their late comeback was not enough.
India held on to win the final and successfully defended their women's kabaddi title. The victory also gave India their fourth gold medal in the event.
