Sukhbir Badal expresses deep gratitude to Akali workers for making the Patiala Jabar Virodhi rally a huge success. (Says party will now lead agitation on people issues if they were not resolved immediately) – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the Akali rank and file as well as the people of Punjab for collecting in lakhs to tell the Congress government that it would not be allowed to unleash repression and destroy the peace and communal harmony of the State to divert attention from its failure to implement the promises made to the public. In a statement here, the SAD president said the Patiala rally would go down in history as one of the largest congregations assembled in Punjab and the credit for the same went to the ordinary party worker who had fanned out in the field to spread the message of the people which was warmly reciprocated by the common masses. Mr Badal said the unprecedented response of the people also spoke volumes about the bitterness amongst the people towards the Congress party for lying and deceiving them with false promises with the sole aim of forming its government in Punjab. He said people had made it clear that the Congress would now have to fulfill the promises made to the people including implementing the Rs 90,000 farm loan waiver, giving unemployment dole and old age pension of Rs 2,500 per month and increasing Shagun benefits to Rs 51,000 besides other promises. “The people also want that current issues like giving bonus to farmers to compensate them for using machines to burn stubble as well as compensation for crop damage and giving agitating teachers their just dues while confirming them in service should be resolved immediately”. The SAD president said there was a huge demand from the people that the Congress government should give immediate relief of Rs five per litre by reducing State VAT on petrol and diesel. “The SAD will continue to heed the voice of the people and will launch an agitation in case these issues are not resolved immediately ”. He said the Akali worker, as always, would be in the vanguard of the agitation, he added.
