'Tender scam': Fearing arrest, former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu moves HC

Chandigarh, June 13: Fearing his arrest, Congress leader and former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding a seven-day notice before any action is initiated against him and a fair investigation into the complaint with regard to tender scam against him. The Punjab and Haryana High Court is likely to hear his petition in the coming days. A complaint has been filed against Congress leader and former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu in a tender scam. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau is investigating the case and Ashu can be arrested anytime. The AAP-led Punjab Government should not take action just out of political vendetta." The allegations against him Former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu is being accused of involvement in a tender scam worth Rs 2,000 crore. It has been alleged that the former minister favoured 20-25 persons during the allotment by ignoring small contractors. However, Ashu says "this tender is allotted by committees headed by the DC and that charges are being levelled against him under conspiracy". Former Congress leaders' role under scanner? The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had earlier arrested former Forest Minister and Congress leader Sadhu Singh Dharamsot in a corruption case related to the felling of trees and other illegalities.
