Third Covid-19 wave peak over in Maharashtra, says state Health Minister

Maharashtra Covid Update: Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Saturday asserted that the peak of the third wave of Covid is over in the state as the number of cases is declining in worst-hit cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar. "Yes, I believe the third wave's peak has passed because Covid-19 cases are declining in areas such as Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, where the situation was the worst during the last wave. Although the cases are still increasing in several parts of Maharashtra," said Tope giving an update on the current Covid situation. "However, the number of Covid cases is still rising in cities like Nashik, Nagpur, Pune, and Aurangabad of Maharashtra," he said adding that "there is no reason to panic as people are recovering in 5 to 7 days with simple treatment and medicines." "We were previously at 47,000 every day, but have now dropped to around 25,000 per day. Simultaneously, 92 to 96 percent of hospital beds are currently unoccupied, with less than 1% of patients needing oxygen, ICU or ventilators." In Maharashtra, there are currently 2,70,444 active Covid cases. The total number of recoveries was 72,42,649 and the death tally stands at 1,42,461.
