Delhi High Court restrains Ramdev's Patanjali from broadcasting disparaging ads against Dabur
PTC News Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained Patanjali Ayurveda to broadcast any advertisements containing disparaging content against Dabur Chyawanprash.
Justice Mini Pushkarna passed the order on the petition filed by Dabur alleging that Patanjali was running disparaging advertisements about one of its widely popular products.
The advertisement stated that Patanjali claimed that it is the only firm that manufactures Chyawanprash according to the Ayurveda scriptures and classical texts indicating that other brands like Dabur fall short of authenticity.
The advertisement states: “Jinko Ayurved aur Vedo ka gyaan nahi, Charak, Sushrut, Dhanwantari aur Chyawanrishi ke parampara mei ‘original’ Chyawanprash kaise bana payenge?”
In a swift response, Dabur approached Delhi High Court seeking a stay on falsely claimed advertisements and sought a compensation of Rs 2 crore for sabotaging the reputation of the brand.
Dabur, in its plea, said the advertisement falsely claimed that Patanjali's Chyawanprash was the only genuine product. Furthermore, Dabur objected to specific references in advertisements by Patanjali calling a 40-herb Chyawanprash “ordinary.”
The matter is scheduled to be heard next on July 14.
